Ablative Case 

Used to indicate movement from something and/or a cause.

Meaning: from, than

Questions: From what; from whom? Юунаас? Хэнээс?

Suffixes: -аас (ээс, оос, өөс)

Pronouns: 

1st personНадаас (from me)Биднээс (from us)
2nd personЧамаас/Танаас (from you)Та нараас (from you)
3rd personТүүнээс (from him/her)Тэднээс (from them)

Uses of Ablative case: 

  1. Indicate origin (where are you from)?

Та аль аймгаас ирсэн бэ? (Which province are you from)?

Би Америкаас ирсэн. ( I am from the US)

Тэр Монголоос ирсэн. ( I am from Mongolia)

  1. Comparison (…than….)

Лос Анжелес Улаанбаатараас том. (Los Angles is bigger than Ulaanbaatar).

Монголын өвөл Тайландын өвлөөс хүйтэн. (The Mongolian winter is colder than the Thai winter)

  1. Prepositions used with Ablative: 

Бусад (Other than; except): Надаас бусад (other than/besides me)

Гадна (Besides; except): Түүнээс гадна (besides that)

Хойш (After): Надаас хойш (After me)

Өмнө (Before): Гурав цагаас өмнө (Before 3:00)

Ойр (Near): Эндээс ойр (Near here/ near from here)

Доош (Less; Smaller): Араваас доош (Less than ten)

Цааш (From, onwards): Нэр сараас цааш (From January on)
