Comitative Case

Comitative Case (Хамтрах)

Used to express a person and/or a thing that accompanies the subject of a sentence. 

Meaning:  “To have, with, together with”

Questions: With whom; With what? Хэнтэй? Юутай?

Suffixes (following vowel harmony): -тай, -той, -тэй

Pronouns: 

First person Надтай (with me)Бидэнтэй (with us)
Second person Чамтай/ Таньтай (with you)Та нартай (with them)
3rd person Түүнтэй (with him/her)Тэдэнтэй (with them)

Uses of Comitative case: 

Багш + нар + тай + гаа= With my teacher

Breakdown: 

Багш (subject) + нар= teachers (pluralizes subject)

тай= with (Comitative case usage)

(г)аа= my/ ownership of subject (Reflexive ending) 

Examples: 

Чи хэнтэй хөдөө явсан бэ? With whom did you to do the countryside/ Who did you go to the countryside with?

Би ээжтэйгээ хамт хөдөө явсан. I went with my mother to the countryside

Монгол улс 21 (хорин нэгэн) аймагтай.  Mongolia has 21 provinces

Postpositions with Comitative case: 

Хамт: “together with”

Надтай хамт суу (Come sit (together) with me)

Цуг: “together with”

Надтай цуг (Together with me)
